Government ‘walking into even bigger rental crisis’ as number of landlords selling up set to escalate

A recent rise in landlords exiting the housing market will sharply increase in the first months of 2026, the latest house price survey reveals.

The introduction of a nationwide rent pressure zone has led to a 38pc annual increase in landlord sales in many areas, the Irish Independent REA Average House Price Index shows.

More than 60pc of sales in Limerick city are down to landlords selling their properties, according to REA agents.
